The Vietnamese newsagency VNA reported on 16th August that the Vietnamese company that is party to the joint venture to explore oils and natural gases from the "overlapping claim areas"(OCA), claimed by the three countries of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, has commenced explorationn works in the OCA at the same time when the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Thanh Dung has ratified the agreement for the three-country joint venture.
Meanwhile, Bangkok Post reported that the Thai Navy had deployed a warship off the coast of Koh Kong, 10 kilometres from Chaim Yeam International Checkpoint in Koh Kong province to warn Cambodia not to commence explorations in the so-called "overlapping claim areas" covering 27,000 squared kilometres.
The areas have been awarded to the French oil company Total by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen when he visited France in July.
The Bangkok Post quoted a Thai naval commander as saying: "If we let Total explore in the overlapping areas, it would mean we admit the area belongs to Cambodia."
Cambodian officials told the Phnom Penh Post that the Thai deployment was legitimate so long as it took place inside Thai territory, but warned that Cambodia would move to protect its sovereignty in the Gulf if Thai forces made incursions into the overlapping area.
"If their deployment moves into the [overlapping claims area] or into Cambodian waters, then we will defend our nation," said Var Kimhong, Cambodia's top border negotiator.

Soon, Khmer lands and territorial waters will be taken our by these two greedy neighbors. Any territories located inside Cambodia that is rich in natural resources is "overlapping". It sounds very ridiculous. Cambodia should invite international border experts to help examine our borders.
