A Singaporean company will invest $15 million in corn farming in Kampong Speu for export to other Asian markets.
Mr. Dato Johnny, Executive Director of the corn investment company HLH said his company will invest in 12,00 hectares, among them 10,000 hectares are located in Oral district in Kampong Speu to grow corns. He added his company will also buy corn products from Khmer farmers for export to overseas.
Mr. Dato said: "We want to be able to export corn products to other Asian markets to fulfill their needs because Asian countries need 15 million tons of corn products per year for animal feeds."
He added these Cambodian corn products will be exported to Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, China and Singapore.
Mr. Datto said his company does not just invest in corns but he said he had foreign buyers for other Cambodian agricultural products in order to encourage Khmer farmers to increase their productions. He said his company will buy corns at the price of $115 per ton, but for corns that's been cleaned of its hay will be paid $140 per ton.
Mr. Dato added he hopes the farms can produce 6 tons of corns per hectares and that his investments will generate 300 local jobs where workers will be paid at least $80 per month.
