Immigration police on 2nd August attended to a report of neighbourly disturbances at an African Church (mosque?) after receiving calls from neighbours that a group of Africans, who conducted a church prayer, had been too noisy. The church prayer was attended by 60 people, all Africans plus a number of Khmer women.

The police attended a Toul Svay Prey I residence in response to the calls, but at the same time conducted an immigration check on the legality of their immigration status.

The operation was led by Mr. Hy Pru, deputy police commissioner and Mr. Lo Yuy. governor of Chamkar Morn district. During the immigration check, police found that most of the passport holders are Nigerians. The immigration check is also a routine police operation to check on any illegal activities that may be committed by the group.

According to Koh Santepheap, neigbours had made a request to the police to ask the house owner to discontinue renting the house to the group for religious gathering because it is too noisy for the neighbours, especially on the weekend when people need to rest in bed longer.

In the past few months, Cambodian police have arrested a number of African people, mainly Nigerians, for drug trafficking.
