A Cambodian court has on the morning of 4th August ordered Ms. Mu Sochua to pay 16.5 million riels (~$US4100), 8.5 million riels in fines and 8 million riels in compensation to Prime Minister Hun Sen after he had successfully sued her for defamation, in a decision viewed by observers as politically motivated.

The court hearing on the morning of 4th August was attended by Ms Mu Sochua, Mr. Sam Rainsy, President of the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) as well as diplomats and representatives of the civil society.

Ms Mu Sochua and the SRP have said that they will pay the fines and will not appeal the court decision as they think that it is a waste of time, considering that the court is controlled by Mr. Hun Sen.

The SRP said that the party will pay the fines on Ms Mu Sochua's behalf as they said that private donations from Ms Mu Sochua's sympathisers had surpassed the amount of the fines.

According to everyday.com.kh, the SRP and the Human Right Party (HRP) have immediately released a statement repudiating the court decision.

The statement stated that Ms. Mu Sochua should not be judged by an incompetent, a non-independent and a biased court such as the Cambodian court. The statement went further by saying that this biased court had thrown out Ms Mu Sochua's lawsuit against Mr. Hun Sen even though she has sufficient evidence. It went further by saying that Ms Mu Sochua was the victim of Mr Hun Sen's slander, but instead she was stripped of her parliamentary immunity and charged with defaming Mr. Hun Sen.

The statement had also appealed to the international community to continue to monitor the government's use of the defamation cases and the court to silence its critics.

How unjust it is. A victim of a defamation become even more victimized by a Hun Sen kangaroo court.

She has been defamed by Hun Sen and now has been ordered to pay compensation to Hun Sen who defamed her.

This is Cambodia under Hun Sen. The murderer got away with murder and the victims go to jail.

I am really dissapointed with Cambodian Court decision.

It is really funny thing that victim goes to jail.

The court is the equipment of Hun Sen's control.

Where is justice?

Hun Xen looked down the women.

No justice in Cambodia.

No freedom of speaking.

I would not blame the court by it is under Hun Sen's control.

Hun Sen should not be the Prime Minister.

It's ridiculous. It's truly a kangaroo court with incompetent and unconscious, unshamed judges.

How do you feel the valued donors?

I am a Camdoain Citizen; but I don't feel I AM BENEFITING FROM YOUR DONATION.

Are you just spending your nation/people money to survive only the BLACK GROUP and DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO SPEND THE $$$, DO NOT AWARE WHAT TO SPEND ON BECAUSE YOU ARE VERY RICH NATION/PEOPLE?

I am not suggesting you/your people to stop donate to Cambodia but you MUST consider the mechnism that should HELP poor/marginalized people and prevent those powerfull/corrupted group solely benefit from yours.

WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT YOU GIVE $$$$$$ TO THE THIEFS [famliy tree].

dumb ass Khmeroverseas once again don't disappoint in being played like a fucking tool again. Can't you idiots all see who the winners are? The politicians while you shitheads are paying, they are playing with your money. Hun Sen got his cut, Sam Rainsy and Sochua now will share the surplus donated fund.

Let me tell you something for those who read my comment. You are not doing anything good for the country by supporting any group of political party. You're just contributing to a clan of people that you want to be part of. So don't go around thinking like you have done so much for the country with your money when in reality all the money you spent went toward benefiting an exclusive group only.

Stop being a fucking political tool that feel the need to belong so much and be your own independent person. Stop giving money to politician and instead go to build and do shit for the people. That is doing good for your country.

I'm not surprised with the judge's decision because everyone know that the court is controlled by Hun Sen. The judges and the courts in Cambodia are just political tools for Hun Sen to suppress and silence opposition voices.

Justice in Cambodia is only for the rich and the powerful only. The poor and the weak can only dream about it.

Hun Sen is trying to scare all his opponents not to mess around with him. He wanted to show how powerful he is, even more powerful than the president of the United States. The U.S president can be impeached for wrongdoings, but for Hun Sen, even if he killed someone (Pisith Pilika), he can get away with murder. This is a verdict by a blind judge working in a kangaroo court.

To make a country moving forward, we don't need a dictator to rule with an iron fist. Israel was created in 1948, Taiwan 1949, Singapore 1959..These countries started from scratches and they have done a great jobs. Lee Kuan Yew might have ruled Singapore with a bit of an iron fist, but nothing like the way Hun sen runs Cambodia for the last 30 years. He made Singapore prosperous in just a few years, but Hun Sen, after 30 years many millions of Cambodians are still very, very poor.
