The Appeal Court will hear Hang Chakra's case, the editor-in-chief of Khmer Machas Srok newspaper who was jailed for 12 months for disinformation when he published an article about widespread corruption committed by officials working under Deputy Prime Minister Sok An.
Mr. Chou Chu-Ngy, Hang Chakra's lawyer, told Khmer Sthapana by telephone on the afternoon of 10th August that Hang Chakra's appeal will be heard on 11th August.
He added that, if the appeal is proceeded according to legal principles, his client will be exonerated. But he further added that this case is a political case and therefore it is very difficult for his client to get a fair trial.
Mr. Chou Chu-Ngy also said that Hang Chakra's health had deteriorated from a short of breath.
Mr. Chum Sophal, editor of the Khmer Machas Srok newspaper, said he is not very hopeful that Hang Chakra (pictured) will be released from prison, but added that strong pressures from international community and human right groups can make the court to provide real justice to Hang Chakra.
