Cambodian military sources from Preah Vihear said that 20 Thai soldiers are busy digging trenches in front of the Chak Chreng area this morning (Tuesday 14th).
The sources said that Gen. Srey Doek, Cambodian commander for Preah Vihear region, had demanded those Thai soldiers cease their activities immediately. Thai and Cambodian commanders have later scheduled to meet at Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda on the morning of Wednesday the 15th.
Cambodian sources said that Prime Minister Hun Sen had issued an order from France, where he is on a 5-day state visit, to rebuild the Cambodian temple burnt down by Thai shells during the fighting on 3rd April 2009 in one week. But the Cambodian military asked for a 10 days time frame.
At the same time, the Reaksmei Kampuchea newspaper reported that another group of 20 Thai soldiers had sneaked in at night time to dig a big trench of 5o metres in length near the dirt track in between Phnom Trop and Ta Sem Pass.
The report said that after the Cambodian troops saw and strongly warned them, those Thai troops withdrew immediately. The report also said that the Cambodian troops had occupied the trench immediately after the Thai withdrew to prevent them from returning.
Gen. Yim Pim, commander of division 8, said that Cambodian troops demanded Thai troops leave the area because it is a disputed zone where no side can deploy troops. He added that as on Moday the 13th those twenty Thai soldiers have not returned to the area yet. But he warned that, if those Thai troops return to re-occupy the area, armed clashes are unavoidable.
