Deputy premier: Both parties must reduce tensions at Thai-Cambodian border

BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban (pictured) on Thursday urged every concerned party to help reduce tensions at the ancient Preah Vihear temple on the Thai-Cambodian border.

Mr. Suthep, who visited the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh and held talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen last Saturday, said senior military officers of the two countries would have to find solution on troop reductions at the temple as well as how many troops from each side would be reduced.

"In my opinion, there is no tension at the Thai-Cambodian border," he said, adding that he would again travel to Cambodia this Saturday to jointly preside over the opening ceremony of a highway, financed by the Thai government.

He said he would meet Premier Hun Sen again at the ceremony.

During discussions with Mr. Hun Sen on Saturday (June 27), Mr. Suthep said he and the Cambodian government leader agreed that boundary experts of both countries should hold talks to settle the problem and the two countries should expand cooperation for the benefit of people of the two nations.
