As an Ethnic Khmer from Surin, Chai Chidchob should protect Khmer interests rather than Thai interests. As a Surin native, he should know well that Thailand had taken large territories of Cambodia for many centuries.

Chai Chidchob ethnic background as Khmer Surin has little to do with the decision making in the outcome of this border issue hoopla. I doubt if there is any thing good coming from this meeting. It's just another publicity stunt performs by Thailand to fool Cambodia. Cambodia shouldn't fall for it.

I agree. I doubt this ethnic Khmer guy can do anything about the border dispute between Thai vs Khmer. I just think Thai PM should stop making claim that Thai loses land to Khmer because all of lands in Thailand belong to the Khmer. As an ethnic Khmer he should rise up and break away from Thailand.

Thanks

He would not effect anything about border conflict!!! this is just a thai using khmer surin to test his loyalty to thai or his khmer surin back ground. as most people know the conflict in preah vihear is not about invading but the thai want to keep khmer surin at bay of their loyalty to thai or to khmer. if srok khmer are to get full control of preah vihear, the thai scared that khmer surin will lean toward srok khmer. I FEEL SORRY FOR KHMER SURIN MORE THAN KHMER KROM!!!khmer surin have more freedom but being used by thai for this kind of issues but khmer krom have less movement freedom and silent and depopulated but no violent crimes at this times.BOTH ARE BAD FOR KHMERS!!!!

Does this guy still speak Khmer? My father said, he met this guy when Thailand reclaimed Seimreap and Battambong in the mid 40s. He went to Cambodia to my father's village. Many Khmers ethnic in Thailand don't want anything to do with Khmer. They are very loyal to Thai's nationality/government including this guy, Kuang Apaivong, Sarith Tanarath. They guys held ministerial positions. Kuang Apaivong and Sarit Tanarath were formal Thai's PM but they didn't acknowledge their Khmer's root.

I think he speaks Khmer with heavy Thai accent that no Cambodian can understand. I think he understands very little Khmer.

You are right 11:17am. Most Khmers in Thailand whom we called Khmer Surin hate Khmers and are very loyal to Thailand.

My fellow Khmer, whether Khmer Surin, Khmer Krom, or Khmer Leur they are all our brothers. Bangkok is using Chai Chidchob is as bait to convince Hun Sen to give in. Let's not suspect him of anything. Khmer Surin are as powerless as Khmer Krom because the government of that country have total control of them. There is not doubt they face discriminations.
I doubt if Khmer Surin wish to unite with the motherland. Maybe when Cambodia is stronger and economically improved, Khmer Surin might have a second thought. Maybe at this time Khmer Surin is just laying low for Bangkok to fall apart and Surin will fight for independence, like how Siem fought Khmer for independence in 14th century. Hell..it's happening now in the 3 proivinces of southern Thailand. Those provinces were taken away from Malaysia, the Muslim Thai(Malaysians) want to be independence from Thailand. I hope this is the same with Khmer Surin.
Anyhow, I know Surin province is one of the poorest in Thailand. Many Khmer there do think the Thai are arrogant bastards.

3:06pm, I totally agree with your comments. The Thai leaders are using Chai as a bait to pacify Cambodia. That's why Cambodian leaders should not fall into Thai traps and tricks.

Khmer Surin, at present, do not want to unite with the Cambodian motherland because Cambodia is much poorer than Thailand. When Cambodia is stronger and richer, maybe they will think of joining. But by that time, these Khmer Surin will be totally Thai ethnically, culturally and linguistically.
