It was one of the most horrific episodes of genocide in the 20th century, The Killing Fields of Cambodia. Nearly 11,000 Cambodian-Americans live in the Bay Area, and are now giving voice to the atrocities as the killers go on trial.
Nearly 2 million Cambodians died during the communist experiment under Pol Pot from 1975 to 1979. Pol Pot has died, but five Khmer Rouge leaders have been arrested and charged with crimes against humanity. An international tribunal backed with the United Nations is underway. Activists are trying to get refugees to submit their testimonies.
