Unesco has rejected a Thai proposal for a joint registration of the Preah Vihear temple with Cambodia in a meeting in Seville, Spain on Tuesday 23rd June, reports Deum Ampil.

Deum Ampil reported that, according to Cambodian delegates to the meeting, Unesco delegates had unanimously rejected the Thai proposal to de-register the Preah Vihear temple and consider the Thai proposal for a joint registration between Cambodia and Thailand.

Recently, Thai PM, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, sparked a diplomatic row that led to military build-up on both sides of the borders when he told the media that Thailand had planned to ask Unesco to de-list the temple. The Thai plan angered Cambodia who warned that it is ready to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Reports from the borders in the last few days have indicated that both sides of the borders had built up their military strength.

It is a good news. Thailand lost too many legal and diplomatic battles with Cambodia over Preah Vihear, but Thailand might try it on the military front. Cambodia must be prepared militarily.
