Many diplomats in Phnom Penh are very critical of the lifting of parliamentary of two opposition MPs on Monday 22nd and that they are monitoring the matter very closely, reports Radio Free Asia.

Mr. John Johnson, spokesman for the U.S embassy, said that the U.S is very concerned about the event. He said: "We are monitoring the situation. Presently, it seems that the judicial system has been used to threaten many people who dare to criticise the government. The freedom of expression is the core of democracy. So, the government and politicians must accept the people's criticism about their works."

During the parliamentary session to stripp Mrs. Mu Sochua's and Mr. Ho Vann's immunity, the media and civil societies as well as ambassadors from America, France, Germany and Britain were barred from witnessing the parliamentary session.

The German ambassador, Mr. Frank Mann, said he was disappointed for not being allowed to attend the session, while the British ambassador, Ms. Elizabeth Evans, said that she is monitoring the matter very closley. She said: "We are continuing to cooperate with the government and will continue to monitor what is happening (in Cambodia)."

In a speech on the same day of the lifting of the immunity of the two MPs, Prime Minister Hun Sen warned foreign diplomats not to meddle in the affairs of Cambodia. He said: "Foreigners or other people, please do not meddle in this affair. If you meddle with the laws, we have the legal measures to deal with those people. When we use laws, they criticised us. So they want us to use the laws of the jungle?"

The opposition Sam Rainsy Party, appealed to the donor countries to intervene to help its two accused MPs. Mr. Yim Sovan, party spokesman, said: "We are appealing to the donor countries, international organisations, the UN and the international community to continue to monitor the matter and intervene in every way and every picture not to allow democracy in Cambodia to be ended in this situation."

Reports indicated that Mrs Mu Sochua has left Cambodia on the night of 22nd and Mr. Ho Vann was in hiding in Phnom Penh for fearing the arrests by the authority.
