Many ethnic Jarai villagers at Lom village, Pok Nhai commune, O'Yadao district in Ratanakiri province said that they saw many Vietnamese loggers have crossed to cut trees in inside Khmer territories, reports Radio Free Asia.

A Jarai villager, Mr. Romeas Neun, said that he saw many Vietnamese bringing electric saws and heavy equipments have crossed into Cambodia last week and began cutting trees about 6 kilometres from Lom village near O'Chrang point where illegal logging by the Vietnamese people was first discovered in 2007.

Another ethnic Jarai villager, Mr. Sol Sot, said that those Vietnamese dared not cross deep into Cambodian territories. He said they cut a lot of high-grade timbers just on the borderlines by using high-powered equipments.

Mr. Souvann Khamvann, Deputy Police Commissioner of Ratanakiri province, said that his men have patrolled the areas very tightly so he doesn't believe that the Vietnamese can cross into Cambodia and cut trees inside Cambodian territories. He said: "They (Vietnamese) did not cross (into Cambodia) near our checkpoint, they crossed far away from our checkpoint. Now we have stopped them and they dare not come again. I have deployed my forces there to patrol the areas. If we see them we will arrest them and bring them to the police stations."

In May, the ethnic Jarai villagers detained four Vietnamese nationals for illagally logging inside Khmer territory but they were released by the Cambodian authority without punishments. On the contrary, the Cambodian villagers who detained the Vietnamese illegal loggers were themselves being harrassed and intimidated by the authority.
