Cambodian unions said that many textile workers have lost their jobs because of the current world recession, reports everyday.co.
Mr. Chuon Mom Thol, president of the Federation of Cambodian Unions, said that more than 40,000 textile workers had lost their jobs and 58 garment factories had closed their doors since August last year.
Quoting the figures of a report prepared by his union which was publicly released last week, Mr. Chuon Mon Thol said that 41,117 garment workers had lost their jobs during the 9 months period since last year. The report also said that 25,403 more textile workers have been suspended from their jobs until the textile businesses pick up again.
Mr. Chuon Mom Thol has been quoted by the Cambodia Daily nwspaper as saying "the garment sector remain good. Just last week we saw that one other factory has been closed with the loss of more than 1,000 jobs."
