Situations along the Khmer-Thai borders at Preah Vihear remained tense as troops from both sides of the borders are ordered to on high alert, reports Radio Free Asia.

Military sources from the Veal Entry frontlines yesterday reported that Thai troops are beginning to conduct their activities inside Khmer territories again.

Mr. Phay Siphan, spokesman for the Coucil of Ministers, told RFA that the new tensions were caused by Thai troops' attempt to cross into Cambodian territories. He sadi: "This morning, the mine exploded because 6-7 Thai troops had violated our territories at the same, that is at Veal Entry. The spot is located 400-500 metres inside Khmer territories and when the Thai soldiers tried to enter the areas, they stepped on landmines but we were not aware of what casualties they have suffered."

Cambodian military sources said that, after they stepped on landmines, the Thai soldiers fired several rounds into the air in an attempt to provoke a reaction from the Khmer troops.

However, a Thai colonel told RFA that there is no sich thing had happened. He sadi: "There is nothing happenning. We have investigated everything. The Thai soldiers did not enter Veal Entry and Thai soldiers did not fire anything rounds. These are only claims that came out from the Cambodian side."

The Veal Entry area is a contentious issue between Thailand that have caused many eruptions of deadly armed clashes in recent time.

A Khmer soldier based at the Veal Entry frontlines said Khmer soldiers are on high alert to watch the Thai troops' every move, but, he said, the situation is not tense. He said: "It is not tense, but both sides are on high alert".

Mr. Phay Siphan reiterated that, despite showing softness in the negotiations, the Cambodian troops will not allow any foreign troops to invade our troops even one inch, reports RFA.
