A Frenchman was kicked and threatened with a gun during a minor traffic accident with a luxury car owned by a powerful Cambodian man in Phnom Penh, reports Deum Ampil newspaper.
The paper reported that the accident happened when the Frenchman's car attempted to turn left on Norodom Boulevard near a book shop and the luxury car, due to its speed, failed the brakes and rear-ended the Frenchman's car. The unnamed Frenchman failed to stop on the spot and drove into the bookshop car park. The owner of the luxury car followed, got off the car, lunged toward the Frenchman, kicked him and pointed a gun at him, says Deum Ampil.
The Frenchman, fearing for his life, ran into the bookshop and called the French Embassy for help. A short time later, the embassy staff arrived bringing with them a few policemen to help resolve the issue.
During the peace talks, the Frenchman agreed to fix the damages to the luxury car but he demanded that the owner of the luxury car be punished for using violence and weapons against him.
At the end, both sides agreed to end the dispute peacefully and absolved each side of any wrongdoings.
No one knows who the owner of the luxury car was or what position within the government he holds, but with the number plate on his car written as 'Phnom Penh 2A0909', it is not hard to find out who he really was.
According to Deum Ampil, it is assumed that, due to the type of car he uses, which is estimated to cost in excess of over $US100,000 (one hundred thousand dollars), the man must be a very senior government official or a very powerful rich man.

It is not new in cambodia. It happened every day. I saw with my eye everyday in Phnom Penh. Nothing new to me.
A lawless country ruled by a lawless Prime Minister. Money and guns rule the country, not laws.
I would say serve this frenchman right. This is becasue when you want to turn to the left, or when making a U turn, you must get to the most left of the right side of the road, and when no cars are coming from the front (the opposite oncoming traffic), then you proceed to move your car.
I notice that people are not doing this. When they want to make a U turn or turn to the left , they just turn from where their car is and some even swerve to the right before swerving left to make an U turn. This is wrong.
put that french in jail for breaking traffic issues. should have fixed his brake.
