BANGKOK, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's senior army officer denied on Wednesday a news report, which said that Thailand's troop did cross the border to Cambodia.
According to the news report by a foreign news agency, Cambodian officials disclosed that on Wednesday Thai soldiers had entered into Cambodia near a disputed temple, where the two neighboring countries briefly exchanged fire last year.
About 100 troops had crossed the border, the foreign news agency quoted a spokesman for Cambodia's Council of Ministers as saying.
But, Lt-Gen. Wiboonsak Neeparn, Thailand's Second Army Region commander refused the news report. Thai soldiers had just surveyed sources of water due to the drought problem, Lt-Gen. Wiboonsak told Xinhua during a telephone interview.
Significantly, the water sources are located on an area which has not been demarcated, said the Thai Second Army Region commander.
And, this disputed borderland has been guarded by both Thai and Cambodian soldiers for six months, said Lt-Gen. Wiboonsak.
Right now, the situation returns to normal as the two sides have realized the survey of the sources of the water by the Thai troop created misunderstanding among the Cambodian soldiers, said Lt-Gen. Wiboonsak.
