PARIS—An enthralled Paris audience saw Divine Performing Arts (DPA) last show in France on their European Tour 2009 on Sunday afternoon, March 1st. Busy as the head of an enterprise should be, Mr. Chhor, Head of the Paris-based unit of a big Japanese technology firm, can only come to see cultural shows on the weekends. He made the effort and didn’t regret seeing the DPA show with his wife and his daughter– it went “directly and deeply to the heart”, he said after the show.
We asked the native Cambodian about his impression after watching Divine Performing Arts in the Palais des Congrès in Paris. He commented “It’s a very amazing show. I really appreciate that I have seen it. It is very interesting to see China´s culture unfold. We are not used to seeing such beautiful things that go directly and deeply to the heart. One could see very well centuries of civilization.”
Mr. Chhor also noted big similarities between Chinese and Cambodian Culture. “It is very similar, as Cambodia has a civilization somewhere between India and China.”
What was shown on stage would seem like it could apply deeply to his culture, he stated. “It is what we live, in our civilization, in our culture. I would say it is half of our culture. In Cambodia Buddhism is very important for us.”
He also liked the spiritual message, he said. “The spirit of Buddha and the way people live... Here in Europe we very much live what I would call rationality, but Asian people live much deeper, with their heart.”
From Paris onwards Divine Performing Arts continues its European Tour in England´s “New London Theatre” from March 3rd to March 7th.
