Prince Sisowath Thomico rebuked KI-media and Khmer Nation News

Khmerization received an email from Prince Sisowath Thomico (pictured), an advisor to the king, after Khmerization published a translated article from the Khmer Nation News titled "Mr. Hun Sen’s attempt to sack Mr. Sar Kheng forced King Sihamoni to depart for Beijing". Khmerization wish thank the prince for his interests. Khmerization do not wish to make any comments over the prince's unimpressed reaction other than to leave the readers to make their own comments and judgements.

Prince Thomico, however, has reacted positively to Khmerization's previous publication regarding the Preah Vihear issue

Dear sir,

I would like to react to your paper and more specifically to your title "Mr. Hun Sen’s attempt to sack Mr. Sar Kheng forced King Sihamoni to depart for Beijing".

Everyone knows that KI, which was the first medium to hint that the King's departure to Beijing would delay any attempt by the Prime Minister to change top military/police commanders (No army or police reshuffle in the next three weeks, KI, Feb 4, 2009) is closely linked to the SRP's President and that the "news" published by KI must be taken with a grain of salt. Cheat Khmer is also a newspaper linked to the SRP and not surprisingly, they refer to the King's departure as a way "to escape any pressure from the PM to sack Mr. Sar Kheng".

In this regard I would like to remind everybody that King Sihamoni is a Consitutional King. As such, He has never been involved in any politician conflict. The sacking of Mr. Sar Kheng, or any other top Government official, would only be internal problems within the ruling party, i.e. the CPP. It is up to the PM to sack anyone in his government, to have his replacement approved by the CPP overwhelming majority in the National Assembly. The royal decree is issued only AFTER the vote of the National Assembly. That is how the Cambodian Constitution works.

As a Constitutional King, King Sihamoni cannot take any decision AGAINST the will of the people expressed by the Parliament.

Furthermore, King Sihamoni's departure to Beijing was planned even before his official visit to Quebec to attend the Francophonie Summit held on Oct 16-19, 2008. I respect the SRP, its President and its members. I wish they could respect our King as much as I respect them. Stating that the King was forced to leave because of CPP's internal problems is a sign of disrespect of the King and of grave misunderstanding of how our country is ruled.

Regards

Thomico

These are just rumors but they might be true. Having said that, i don't think that this article is disrespectful in any way toward the King. As far as I understand it says that the King traveled to Beijing to escape being pressured by Hun Sen to sign a royal decree to sack Sar Kheng. Anyone knows that many times the King did not want to sign the royal decrees to sack anyone, but because he is a constitutional king he has to oblige with the PM's request, even though he doesn't want sign.

Prince Thomico is too eager to protect the reputation of the King. I don't see any sign of disrespect in the mentioned article posted by Khmerization.

The reputation of the King of Cambodia will continue to wane anyway among Cambodians, since the King has chosen to remain quiet at all cost even though blatant injustices committed against the poor Dey Kraham residents happened right under His very nose. This is the case of social injustices which has nothing to do with politics and the King has unfortunately chosen to remain silent.

How can the King be a cool shade to the citizens if He refuses or is not willing to provide the shadow when it is really needed?

Sometimes in life in order to live, one has to be willing to die.

Remember that a true and lasting respect can only be earned!
