Internal disputes in NRP deepened

Reaksmei Kampuchea newspaper
6th Feb, 2009
Reported in English by Khmerization

Internal disputes within the Norodom Ranaridhh Party (NRP) have led to a request for the sacking of 2 NRP parliamentarians.

Mr. Em Sitha and Mr. Suth Dina, the ousted NRP members, have written two letters to the National Assembly and the National Election Committee (NEC) requesting them to remove two MPs from the NRP, ie. Mr. You Hockry, MP for Kampong Cham and Mr. Sao Rany, MP for Prey Veng, from the parliament.

Mr. Em Sitha and Mr. Suth Dina, who were ex-members of the Khmer National Front Party, claimed that the two MPs have been expelled from the NRP on 30th January, 2009, therefore they have no validity to serve as members of parliament.

Mr. You Hockry, Secretary-General of the NRP, called those who requested his removal from parliament as ignorant about the law.

Mr. You Hockry told Reaksmei Kampuchea that the Khmer National Front Party has been disbanded and merged with the NRP on 16th November, 2006. The NRP was then registered with the Interior Ministry to contest the elections. When Prince Norodom Ranariddh, the NRP President, resigned, he appointed Mr. Chhim Siek Leng as NRP president who was then recognised by the Interior Ministry as well as Mr. Em Sitha and Mr. Suth Dina themselves, who were then members of the NRP's Steering Committee.

Mr. You Hockry said that the NRP will lodge complaints to all relevant state institutions against Mr. Em Sitha and Mr. Suth Dina for illegally occupying the NRP's Head Office and for illegally using the party's stamps and illegal party name.

Mr. Tep Nytha, Secretary-General of the NEC, said that, currently, the NRP has been legally registered with, and recognised by, the Interior Ministry with elected representatives from the 2007 commune elections and 2008 national election.

However, on the 4th of February, Mr. Em sitha had written to the Information Ministry asking it to stop the Voices of the Monarchy Radio Program from being broadcasted through the Beehive Radio Station.
