Winemaking power couple Sarah and Sparky Marquis of Mollydooker Wines, are on a mission to do more than just make great wine. With the help of wine lovers across the globe and donating the proceeds of a new wine project, Mollydooker is lending a hand to support and educate the children of war-torn Cambodia.
Sarah and Sparky are bottling 1000 cases of a red Lefty blend of Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot under a special new label and are planning to donate 100% of the proceeds to support children’s projects through an organization called Transform Cambodia ( www.transformcambodia.com).
Mollydooker will release the wine exclusively on their US website to fans and supporters later this year, but in the meantime, in true Mollydooker style, there’s a fun twist to the story… Sarah and Sparky need help naming the wine for this special project and are accepting submissions from fans and supporters from around the world. Sarah and Sparky announce, “We need a name for this special wine, and we'd love your ideas!” The person who comes up with the final name will receive some much deserved recognition and a special gift from Sarah and Sparky.
Sarah reports, “Sparky and I have been fortunate enough to receive incredible love and blessings and we’ve been looking for a charity organization that we can get involved in so that we can share our good fortune and help others.” In December 2008, Sarah took a trip to Southeast Asia to research children’s charities, and while there met with an Australian run non-governmental organization based in Phnom Penh? called Transform Cambodia ( www.transformcambodia.com).
“Transform Cambodia was just the type of organization we were looking for. It is a small organization where you can see the direct effect of your contributions, which was something really important to us.” says Sarah. The program supports children who are living or working on the streets of Phnom Penh by providing them with food and clothing, and giving them a chance to go to school, learn English and to be involved with mentors who can help them achieve their potential.
While there, Sarah visited some of the children's homes which she described as devastating to see. “The homes consist of shacks made out of tin, with one room that fits a whole family, wooden slats for a bed, and no running water, electricity or toilet. These kids own nothing except for the clothes on their back and do not have not much future ahead of them. As you can imagine, the families and children feel very lucky to be part of Transform Cambodia and are extremely thankful.” reports Sarah.

Sarah and Sparky Marquis have had incredible success with each new wine project they create. Having made wines in the past for Fox Creek, Shirvington, Henry’s Drive, Parson’s Flat and Marquis Phillips, they now make wines exclusively for the Mollydooker label. They are among the most highly decorated winemakers in the world, having received a Wine Spectator “Top 10” award two years in a row and having crafted five wines to score 99-points by Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate. They have also been named “Australian Winemakes of the Year” and were chosen among Robert Parker’s “Top Wine Personalities”.
