HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh said he appreciated the outcomes of stronger ties between Vietnamese and Cambodian policy makers during a meeting with visiting Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Heng Samrin.

Manh said that the Vietnamese Party, State and people always gave the high priority to maintaining good relations, traditional friendship and comprehensive and stable co-operation with Cambodia.

"These ties are invaluable assets to the two nations that today’s generation needs to keep, develop and then hand over to coming generations," said Manh.

Chairman Heng Samrin briefed the Vietnamese leader on developments in his country, including the results of the Cambodian National Assembly election and the outcomes of a meeting with a Vietnamese National Assembly delegation headed by its Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

President Nguyen Minh Triet also met the Cambodian leader at a separate meeting on the same day, and said Viet Nam was determined to push up friendly relations and co-operation with Cambodia.

Triet said the two countries had struggled side by side in the past, fighting for national liberation. Today’s generation needed to strengthen solidarity and help each other boost development, he said.

Heng Samrin expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Party, State, National Assembly and people for their sincere assistance to the Cambodian people in their past struggles to gain independence and during the country’s national construction and development.

Cambodian people would never forget the great sacrifices made by voluntary Vietnamese soldiers who helped many Cambodians from death and genocide, said Heng Samrin.

He said he had deep gratitude to the families of voluntary soldiers who died in Cambodia and stressed that the sacred contribution of Vietnamese soldiers would be marked in Cambodia’s history forever. — VNS
