Mr. Ang Chanrith, president of the Khmer Krom Association for the Defence of Human Rights told Kampuchea Thmey newspaper that he had received information that Khmer Krom living in Cambodia and Vietnam will hold concurrent protests but the time and place have not been scheduled yet. The demonstrations will be led by many associations and will be held concurrently.
In relations to the permission for the demonstrations, Mr. Ang Chanrith said he will not ask for the permission from the Cambodian authority because in the past the authority has always cracked down on the demonstrations held by the Khmer Krom people.
Mr. Khieu Sopheak, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, said that all Khmer people have the rights to hold demonstrations, but said that the demonstrations must be held legally and in accordance with the directives of the higher authority.
