Preah Vihear: The military confrontations in the Preah Vihear region, sparked by the Thai invasion of the 15th of July that led to a temporary military build-up, has dashed any hopes of a quick resolution as both sides have strengthened their defences.
Latest information reported on the 9th of December have said that both Khmer and Thai troops based at Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda and at the frontline at Veal Entry have strengthened their positions. The reports said that at Wat Sekha Kirisvarak there are 10 ten troops stationing there during the day, but at night time there is no Thai soldiers stationing there. The same source said that between 7am and 3pm, 10 Thai soldiers stay at the pagoda, but at night time they return to sleep inside the Thai territory.
At Veal Entry, the 30 soldiers from each side are still facing each other with trenches dug about 30 metres apart.
At a creek where the Thai have stationed about 20 Thai troops, those troops have not returned to be stationed there anymore after the fighting erupted on the 15th of October, 2008. According to military sources, this point has seen the fiercest fighting on the 15th of October with deaths and injuries from both sides.
The military camps at other points of the disputed areas are still there, but have been further strengthened.//
