Australia is using International Human Rights Day to help projects in other nations.
The Rudd government will provide $1.5 million for 19 nations - in the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and Middle East - to share for human rights projects.
Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith says the funding shows the commitment the government attaches to human rights.
"It makes the point that the protection of human rights is a very high priority."
Projects include support for people with disabilities in Cambodia and Madagascar, legal aid for women in Egypt, teaching facilities in India, doctors in the Philippines and protecting legal rights of children in Vietnam.
