Prostate cancer survivor in bid to cycle from Vietnam to Cambodia
A HAWKCHURCH man, who is a recovering cancer sufferer, will cycle from Vietnam to Cambodia to raise money for charity.
Peter Golding, 64, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago, hopes to raise £10,000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity, in partnership with Breast Cancer care.
He said: "I was determined that prostate cancer was not going to be the end of me and made the decision to have surgery. Since then, I have had seven good friends all diagnosed with the condition.
"Each and every one of them is in various stages of the treatment and I wanted to do something to raise awareness of the disease, which is the most common cancer in men in the UK.
"Shortly after being diagnosed, I was recommended to contact the Prostate Cancer Charity.
"With their support, they gave me hope that I would not be one of the 10,000 men who die from the disease every year."
The trek, which starts in March, involves cycling for five days - past paddy fields, farmlands, villages - to the spectacular Temples of Angkor Wat.
Community fundraising manager at The Prostate Cancer Charity, Claire Carlin said: "One person is diagnosed with breast cancer ever 11 minutes and one man dies of prostate cancer every hour.
"The money raised from this trip will enable the charities to help support people diagnosed with these diseases.
"The charity is fighting prostate cancer on every front - through research, support, information and campaigning."

All money donated will go directly to The Prostate Cancer Charity.
Where supporters are UK taxpayers, the charity will automatically receive 28 per cent extra in Gift Aid - which makes this the most efficient way to sponsor.
Peter is now hoping that others will join him on the trek and raise funds for the charities.
