I received an email from Mr. Soun Komara alerting me to the article in German about Thailand's nomination of Ta Moan Thom temple as a world heritage site. And below is my response to Mr. Soun Komara:
Dear Komara,
The article is in German. I can't read German but I can figure it out that the article is about Thailand nominating Ta Moan Thom temple as a world heritage site. I think the article is very valuable for all Khmer and foreigners alike to read. So it would be good if you or someone can translate it into English so that our English readers can be informed about Thai intentions on Ta Moan Thom temple. Please translate if you can. Thanks.
All Khmers should be outraged by Thailand's actions of a blatant robbery of Khmer temples. Ta Moan Thom, Ta Moan Toch and Ta Krabey are Khmer temples up until 1998. The temples were guarded by Khmer Rouge soldiers but when the Khmer Rouge movement disintegrated in 1998 the Thai authority asked the Khmer Ministry of Fine Arts if Thailand could help to repair the temples and develop the temples as tourist areas and share the tourist dollars. The Khmer agreed but Cambodia never benefitted from the tourist dollars, mainly from Thai tourists. And now the consequences of the stupidity of the Ministry of Fine Arts is that we lost the temples to Thailand, forever.
