Thailand, Cambodia for Peace

Bangkok, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) Thailand and Cambodia are withdrawing troops on Wednesday around a second Khmer temple in the common border, which eases the growing tensions between both nations.

The new dispute over the 13th-century Ta Moan Temple ruins seemed to have aroused passions and banished a possible commitment but the Thai forces commander in the border Major-General Kanon Netrakavaesana said the situation disentangled after a bilateral agreement of withdrawing the troops around 80 miles west of Preah Vihear was reached.

Khmer Prime Minister Hu Sen said on Wednesday in Phnom Penh during his first speech after being re-elected that there is a will to disentangle the dispute with Bangkok by peaceful means.

The Thai military command said his government is considering the withdrawal around Preah Vihear, 11th-century temple that gives name to the Khmer province and under Khmer ownership since 1962 when the Hague International Court of Justice ruled so. The temple has recently been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
