Kuwaiti leader to meet Cambodian counterpart

Phnom Penh - Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al- Mohammed al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah will open a three-day official visit to discuss gas and oil exploration cooperation with Cambodia and potential direct flights, the Foreign Ministry said Sunday. Talks between the Sheikh and Prime Minister Hun Sen are scheduled for Monday morning, the ministry said in a press statement.

Under Cambodia's Open Skies policy, dozens of international carriers have begun arriving at Siem Reap International Airport - gateway to the country's main tourism draw, Angkor Wat temple complex - and Phnom Penh International Airport.

Cambodia is also due to begin commercial drilling in the potentially rich oil fields off Sihanoukville, 240 kilometres from the capital within two to three years.

Sihanoukville has just reopened its own refurbished airport.

Cambodia attracted more than 2 million tourists for the first time last year and the industry is its most lucrative, although it hopes revenue from oil will match or surpass it.
