AS FEW AS FIVE FORGED 1018 VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS
OR FIVE DISENFRANCHISED NON-CPP VOTERS PER POLLING STATION
UNFAIRLY DEPRIVED THE OPPOSITION OF ONE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SEAT
As few as five forged 1018 voter registration forms or five disenfranchised non-CPP voters per polling station unfairly deprived the opposition of one National Assembly seat.
In order to prove that even a small-scale election irregularity could have a significant impact on the election results in terms of National Assembly seats allocated to each political party, the SRP has asked independent experts to produce a computer program allowing the user to easily make the relevant sensitivity analyses.
There were two main irregularities at the July 27, 2008 national election:
1) Deletion of legitimate (non-CPP) voters' names to reduce votes for opposition parties.
2) Forged 1018 forms delivered by CPP commune chiefs to illegitimate voters to inflate votes for the CPP.
To assess, with your own assumptions and estimates, the impact of these two main irregularities on the election results, please go to http://tinyurl.com/63zuyc
Other forms of irregularities and fraud (intimidation, vote buying, control of the broadcast media and use of State resources by the ruling CPP for its election campaign, etc.) are not taken into account in this study.
