Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) has said that there are opportunists who are seeking benefits at a time when he is making efforts to find a solution for the victims of land disputes.
The prime minister’s speech today was directed at a group of people who moved to occupy a block of land in Sihanoukville. Mr. Hun Sen said: “There is a news from Sihanoukville. When they saw that I have successfully solved the land disputes for the 125 families, there is another anarchic group trying to occupy another block of land in Sihanoukville. I wish to tell them that: Hun Sen will only solve the land problems for the victims whose lands have been illegally seized or whose lands have not been properly documented. But for those who come to seize lands illegally, the authority will not tolerate their actions and when you are thrown into jails, Hun Sen will not help to release you. I wish to tell you that I will not help with this particular problem and I ask the Sihanoukville authority to take a firm and strong measure on this case.”
The prime minister has said that those who have seized the lands in Sihanoukville include government public servants, powerful people as well as ordinary people also.
