India to step up oil ties with Cambodia

NEW DELHI: India and Cambodia have signed six agreements, including a pact on intensive ties between their state-owned oil majors.
Under a memorandum of understanding signed during the ongoing visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the Cambodian National Petroleum Authority and ONGC Videsh have agreed to exchange ideas on cooperation as well as training and education in oil and gas operations.
They decided to set up a committee to strengthen their working relationship. India is interested in exploring oil in the region .
The two sides signed five other agreements. One pact on foreign office consultations envisages regular Vice-Ministerial review of bilateral relations and exchange of views. The consultations will cover all areas — political, economic, commercial, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation — and held alternately in New Delhi and Phnom Penh. Other agreements signed in the presence of Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Mr. Hun Sen include an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons, an MoU on cooperation in water resource management and a work plan on agricultural cooperation.
