Phnom Penh - A Cambodian family dropped their complaint against a teenaged girl who allegedly poisoned her mother and grandparents to steal money for drugs, police said Monday. Penalty police chief of Phnom Penh's Russei Keo district, Eil Sovann said the family had initially filed charges against Khann Sotheary, 15, after her grandfather Keo Chhuon, 80, had to be hospitalized late at night and his wife, Meas Sophal, 62, and the girl's mother Sen Soheng, also became seriously ill.
The family allege Sotheary laced their food with poison in order to take 9,000 dollars in family savings to buy drugs.
"They dropped the charges when the girl gave the money back. She has stolen motorbikes and other things before to buy drugs but the family want to solve the problem together," Sovann said by telephone.
All poisoned family members were expected to recover, he said.
