Gambari: Cambodia strongly supports role of UN on Myanmar
Cambodia strongly supports the role of the United Nations (UN) on Myanmar issue, the UN special envoy to Myanmar Ibrahim Gambari said here Friday while visiting the kingdom. During his two-day visit, Gambari met with Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong here on Thursday. Gambari told reporters in a press conference at the UNDP office in Phnom Penh that the Cambodian Foreign Minister insisted that Myanmar should work with the UN on the process of democratization. The best way for the Myanmar government to avoid sanction or more sanction is exactly more cooperation with the UN, Gambari told reporters. Cambodia should take the opportunity of Myanmar Prime Minister's visit to give some constructive suggestions, he added. Myanmar Prime Minister General Thein Sein arrived here Friday to pay a goodwill visit to Cambodia, which is his introductory trip to another member country of ASEAN following those to Laos and Vietnam earlier this month.
