SISAKET, 10 January 2013 - Army
Commander-in-Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has visited the Preah
Vihear to give moral support to the officers at the borders.
General Prayuth visited Preah Vihear Temple in the Kantararak
District, Sisaket Province to check on the operations of troops and
police officers. He also delivered a policy on work improvement and the
handling of possible protests from the People’s Alliance for Democracy
(PAD).
General Prayuth affirmed that the officers are prepared to deal with
the demonstration. He also stated he was not concerned with the PAD’s
move, but would immediately take disciplinary action against soldiers
who participated in the protest.
The PAD, also known as the yellow shirt, has earlier demanded that
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reject the International Court of
Justice (ICJ)’s ruling, and threatened to hold street protests against
the government if it did not meet the group's demand. According to the
group, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has no right to make a
decision on the matter. The ICJ is expected to give the ruling on the
ownership of the Thai-Cambodian borders during April 15-19, 2013.
