Heated politics in Cambodia: a bloody confrontation must be avoided

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Prime Minister of Cambodia has warned that a measure will be taken to crack down on the CNRP (Cambodia National Rescue Party) demonstrators who are attempting to block all national roads, considering the blockage as illegal.

The PM made such comments on Dec. 20 at a time when Sam Rainsy is drumming up the demonstration across the city, and his officials are threatening to obstruct all national roads in order to put pressure on Prime Minister Hun Sen to meet their demands for the resignation and re-elections.

The CNRP’s threat to block all national roads and the PM’s warning for the crack-down to ensure the right to travel and the flow of transportation of all goods throughout the country have indicated a heated confrontation between the CNRP and the government. Such rising confrontation has raised concern that violence may occur, which, as a result, may lead to the deaths, injuries and damages.

Such fragile situation will indeed require the two parties to reconcile by putting high above all else the principles of law and national interests.

While the CNRP and thousands of supporters are entitled to stage peaceful demonstration to express their views, it is important that the demonstration should not abuse the rights to life and freedom of movement of other 14 million Cambodian people whose rights are also protected by the existing laws.

The adherence to democracy should not be tantamount to the abuse of other people’s rights. More importantly, the CNRP and its supporters must respect the 14 million people who may be affected or abused if national road blockages are to occur.

Likewise, the government and authorities need to be vigilant in their duty to implement the laws so as to ensure that any measures to quell down demonstrators will be conducted in a cautious manner. Deaths and injuries must be avoided. As long as demonstration is peaceful and other people’s rights are not violated, demonstrators should deserve legal protection as was seen in the past.

It is important that we move on to celebrate New Year with joy and anticipation for progress. It would be regretful if Cambodian politics have been aggravated to violence and bloodshed. - See more at: http://www.thecambodiaherald.com/cambodia/detail/1?page=11&token=MTgwY2UxOGIxM2E#sthash.Z6UqDQnQ.dpuf

Your comment has shown that you are a real Yuon/Vietnamese illegal alien (thief) hiding in Cambodia (and the U.S.) sitting behind Computer. We know you can speak Khmer/Cambodian language and pretend to be Khmer. You are a real evil Yuon/Vietnamese killer yourself.

If someone cause troubles and violence to those Cambodian/Khmer protesters, that person is a real Yuon/Vietnamese alien just like you posting the comment "i'm happy to see Khmer kills Khmer."

How evil and disgusted you are, ah evil Yuon/Vietnamese alien.
