Photo file shows hundreds of shoes remain on Koh Pich Bridge after the stampede that killed at least 340 people and injured some 700 people
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) sent a letter to Phnom Penh City Hall on Wednesday, asking for permission to hold a commemoration ceremony for the victims killed in a stampede that took place three years ago at Koh Pich bridge, according to CNRP senior official Ho Van.
He said that some 100 youths as well as CNRP senior officials will meet Thursday at the stupa near Koh Pich bridge to commemorate the spirits of the victims killed in the 2010 stampede.
Phnom Penh City Hall spokesman Long Dimache said that city hall will meet with CNRP officials regarding their commemoration ceremony.
However, Phnom Penh authorities will also hold a commemoration ceremony on November 22 for victims killed in that horrific accident.
During the ceremony there will be a prayer vigil held for the spirit of the victims.
The families of the victims killed in the tragic stampede accident will also be in attendance.
This is the third anniversary of the stampede that took place at Koh Pich Bridge, which killed more than 340 people and injured around 700 others.
