PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- The Cambodian
National Rescue Party (CNRP) gathered along with thousands of its
supporters Friday afternoon at Democratic Park in Phnom Penh to drum up
support for the party ahead of this Sunday’s general election.
In
the morning, the CNRP led by newly-returned Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha,
campaigned in Kampong Cham, the most populous province holding the
highest number of seats (18 seats), drawing tens of thousands of
supporters.
CNRP used 120 cars and 1,000 motorcycles in the last
day of their campaign to parade in Phnom Penh’s main streets, according
to the letter sent to National Election Committee (NEC).
The
ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) also showed its muscle by
gathering around 40,000 supporters in this morning’s campaign where Chea
Sim, CPP president, also took part along with other senior officials.
9.6
million citizens are eligible to vote on July 28 with eight registered
political parties, however, only the CNRP and the CPP are seen as the
main challengers.
